So the BBC Proms season starts tonight and the BBC Symphony Orchestra has decamped to its new home for the duration – quite an operation. Tonight’s prom has, for me, to be one of the most spine tingling openings of any work, Mahler’s 8th Symphony (Symphony of a Thousand). This is definitely one of my “Desert Island 8” – more of this on another occasion. Sadly I will not be able to listen live as it is All Saints practice night
but I will probably record it or use the Listen Again option
.
Ah, weeks of (mostly) good music to come.
